Malachite
Malachite is a copper carbonate mineral with a hardness of 3.5 to 4. Malachite was known in Egypt as early at 3000 B.C. In the Middle Ages, Malachite was believed to protect against the evil eye. Today most of the Malachite comes from the Republic of Congo (formerly known as Zaire). Malachite is one of the most important stones for protection from negative energies. According to The Book of Stones, Malachite permeates the auric field with positive vibrations and strengthens the natural aura which screens out negative vibrations. It is also considered a strong talisman for travel protection. According to Judy Hall’s, Encyclopedia of Crystals; Malachite absorbs pollutants from the environment and the body, soaking up plutonium and radiation and clearing electromagnetic smog. Malachite also teaches us how to take responsibility for one’s actions, thoughts and feelings. It should be cleansed regularly by placing it on a crystal cluster and setting it out for a short time in the early morning or late evening sun. Do not use water or salt to cleanse this stone as it can be easily damaged and become dull.
